The Macmillan Christmas Arts Festival took place at Macmillan Art Centre, 49 Tulketh Street, Southport, PR8 1AN (and five other venues - see map) from 27th October to 30th December.

Great turn out at Poetry Nights introduced by Fringe Poets Phil McNulty and Steve Beattie on Mondays 19th November and 17th December and with a guest appearance by Alison Chisum. Thanks very much poets, £92 was raised.

Stars of West End musicals Grease and Hair: Marianne Welsh and Keith Hubbard gave an astonishing performance in Macmillan Art Centre on Saturday 24th November. 

Wood Carver: John Mercer demonstrates his skills in animal and bird whittling.  Fantastic display John, thanks.

Silk screen painter Annette Bailey gave a superb demonstration and display on Saturday 8th December. Thanks for coming Annette 

Thanks to Jeff Colligan for doing his own unique versions of classic and modern rock and pop and David Layne for singing Nat King Cole songs we managed to collect about £60.

Marianne Welsh was joined by the Southport Lyric Singers to sing carols at Macmillan Art Centre on Saturday 25th December. We give special thanks to Dorothy for organising all of this and to Margaret for her talents on the piano.

The Macmillan Christmas Arts Festival featured a huge assortment of art, craft and design activities including demonstrations in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, wood carving and even sign writing given by leading local practitioners. 

Tuition in drawing, painting in oils, acrylics and watercolour and use of pastels and charcoal was given for a donation of £7.50 per lesson from 7pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings.

There were also be some great literature, music and dance events featuring extremely accomplished local writers, performers and musical stars.  

An exhibition of artwork by sixteen artists from Merseyside and West Lancashire was held at Macmillan Art Centre. Entry to the exhibition was free.

Art demonstrations and performances will take place at various times in the afternoons and evenings. Entry to all of our evening events is by donation to Macmillan Cancer Support and prices vary; some are free.  Drinks including tea and coffee are available for a £1 donation. Entry to all of our afternoon events is free.

Art In The Kitchen Sink launches - an exhibition in a kitchen showroom which ties in with the Macmillan Christmas Arts Festival. Featuring folk duo Just By Chance and musicians John Chatterton playing guitar and Fritz Steiger playing saxophone. The Kitchen Sink is located at 111b Eastbank Street, Southport, PR8 1DG.
